Questions to Consider Before Hiring a Restoration Shop

As a restoration shop who cares about their customers and people in general who are planning on getting a major project completed, we thought we would tell you a little about things to ask the restoration facility before giving them your precious car to work on.

In our hot rod shop, we are frequently asked the standard questions such as how long have we been in business and how much our shop rate is, but we want to give you some good questions to really find out if the facility you are looking at will give you the best service and restoration for your build.

You want to know that certain things can be performed in house, meaning the shop won’t be sending it out to have the repairs completed. These would include:

  • The capability of making machined pieces used to restore and rebuild your project.
  • Painting capabilities, make sure all block sanding and paint is done in house to guarantee the best prices and quality work.
  • Do they have an upholstery shop?
  • Can they repair metal before having it chromed?
  • Can they mechanically repair and detail all the parts?

Along with these questions, it’s important to find out how big the facility is where they will be completing these services. If a shop doesn’t have a separate area for each of these different areas of a restoration project, you can’t expect them to give you the best work possible as it is very hard for a painter to give quality work while working in the same area as the upholsterer who will have fibers floating through the air. Well, you get the picture about why you need to take your project to a hot rod shop that has the proper set up for start to finish work, all in house.

At Jeff Lilly Restorations, we can assure you that we meet all of this criteria. Give us a call to talk about your mustang restoration or corvette restoration today!
